The ability to learn any new skill is always dependent upon the foundation that is established in the initial stage of instruction. The foundation building process is what allows Blue Buoy Swim School to consistently develop the most comfortable, confident and effective swimmers in a positive and enjoyable manner.

The foundation we develop has three main elements: Breath Control, Balance Control and Movement in the water. Before a child can master strokes and kicking there must be an understanding of how different breathing in the water is from breathing on land. They must learn to control when to hold, when to exhale and when to inhale while passing through the surface of the water. Learning to control equilibrium in the water is required before any movement skills can be learned. Balance in the water is opposite of what a child experiences on land and can cause a great deal of anxiety until control is gained. Once there is comfort with the breath control and balance the child will make confident progress with the movement skills.

At Blue Buoy the student is always taught at his individual level. Teachers will consider where a child is in his development in four areas: Physical, Emotional, Mental and Social. No child will be asked to try something for which they are not developmentally ready.

Great beginnings through strong foundation building have provided thousands of our students with swimming skills that they can enjoy for life. While it is not our purpose to develop the Olympic champion in each student, it is our goal to provide the potential for that to occur. It is with great honor that Blue Buoy has seen four of its’ former students compete in the Olympic Games and another to hold the world record for the English Channel Crossing.
